I am a part-time middle school art teacher, a wife and a mom of two. On my days off I teach art lessons in my kiddos classrooms and have created this blog to share my adventures.

Positive and Negative Space Hearts
For the fourth grade class I am going to teach the element of positive and negative space with this heart project. I will make the math connection by talking about the geometry term "reflection" and how to arrange their interior design cut outs to reflect like a mirror. Perfect challenge near Valentines Day!
Heartfelt Birdies
This is lesson perfect for Valentines Day that emphasizes the elements of shape, line and color. For a shape template, click this link. Gonna try this with the first grade kiddos.

Penguins!
This project was a hit with the First Grade Class. Even with a 15 minute Fire Drill delay, we managed to get all of the penguin scenes created. The kids can continue to add snow and music notes independently now that they are comfortable and confident using their "hands as tools" to tear their paper. Here are some samples!

Chandelier Makers
Room 25 was like a factory last Friday! A group of kids were in around a table in charge of unwrapping and cutting up bottles into useable shapes.
Another group of kids were on the carpet coloring the plastic bottle shapes with colored sharpies.
A few "runners" ran colored pieces to the hole punch and twisting paper clip crew. These kids would hole punch the plastic and loop a paper clip through and twist it it to a hook.

Recycled Chandelier
So I decided to have the 4th grade class collaborate on a Chandelier project for the Silent Auction at Cesar Chavez in March.
I created an armature out of chicken wire and secured the lamp bulb inside. Kids will cut plastic water bottles into pieces and use colored sharpies to color both sides of the plastic then They hole punch the plastic pieces and secure them to the outside of the chicken wire by twisting a paper clip.

Snow Globe 1st grade
LOVED this 1 day project! The kids had lots of steps and processes to attend to in their 25 minute session but all in all every snow globe got completed and assembled. Kids can easily modify their snowman once the paint dries using colored sharpies or colored pencils, but for now, they look marvelous in their simplistic form!
