I decided to try out a cute pointillism fall tree for my next session with second grade this week. Will use tempera and q-tips following a directed tree drawing. Will update with pics next week!
I am a part-time middle school art teacher, a wife and a mom of two. On my days off I teach art lessons in my kiddos classrooms and have created this blog to share my adventures.

2nd Grade Grumpy Cat
What do you get when you show a second grade class this Grumpy Cat video? An excited, meme reading and Grumpy Cat loving group ready to create! After opening with this video I lead the silly class through a directed drawing of Grumpy Cat. After students completed their drawings they had a choice of color station: watercolor, Tempera, Oil Pastel, Color Pencil and Chalk Pastel. Their artwork resulted in a variety of colors, patterns and textures!

The Great Wave Parody
Who doesn't love a good parody! This lesson will get kids kicking with excitement thinking of all the great poses they can come up with for the infamous Great Wave. Students will begin with a directed drawing and finish with sharpie outline. After identifying warm and cool colors, students will paint using water colors. While paint is drying the photo shoot begins! Oh, how art and play mix SO well together!

5th Grade Grumpy Cat
My obsession with kittens translated into a Grumpy Cat art project I taught in my daughters 5th grade class. This directed drawing was very simple and the students were able to complete it within 10 minutes. To capture the soft, furry effect students blended chalk pastels. The best part was listening to all the Grumpy Cat meme ideas being shared with each other! This lesson took 2 50 minute periods of total focus and fun!
